CISSP

The Basics:

The CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) is often considered the most useful credential that you can have in your arsenal. It is highly sought after by employers in the job market, and many cybersecurity degree programs teach courses on just how to pass this exam. This certification is accredited by (ISC)² an international, nonprofit membership organization a leading cybersecurity professional organization.

This certification is not for everyone, and certainly not taken by those early in their careers. Even if you take and pass the exam you still have to have 5 years experience in the industry before you can be considered a CISSP. Without the required experience you can still pass the exam and become and associate of (ISC)² until your 5 years hard labor are up.

Like most accreditations this test is EXPENSIVE so get your company to sponsor you to take it if you can. Without any of the study materials each attempt will set you back $749, so we recommend studying hard! As for what is on the test, here are the topics it claims to cover:

  • Security and Risk Management

  • Asset Security

  • Security Architecture and Engineering

  • Communication and Network Security

  • Identity and Access Management (IAM)

  • Security Assessment and Testing

  • Security Operations

  • Software development Security

Our Review:

As for what the test is like and how hard it actually is, we don’t know! But Soler is scheduled to take it a few months from now and has promised to report back their experience, such as if they ran out of the testing site or broke down crying.
